When a powerful man is willing to risk everything for his own satisfaction, only one woman can beat him at his own game: his wife. Or so she thinks…

“Let’s start with you calling me Stewart. Formalities seem unnecessary.”

Stewart Harrington is rich, gorgeous, and one of the most powerful men in Miami. He always gets what he wants. Anything is available to him for the right price.

Even me.

Being the wife of a mogul comes with all the perks, but being Mrs. Stewart Harrington comes with a few
special requirements. I’ve learned to keep a part of myself locked away as my husband watches me submit to his needs. But the more he demands of me, the more beguiled he becomes and that’s to my advantage. So I keep fulfilling his fantasies and following his rules because he doesn’t know that what he’s playing is really my game. And winning is everything, right?

==========================================================================

Let’s start off by saying that this is not your everyday fairy-tale romance, and if you’re not into anything else but that, this book is not for you. But if you love strong women and plot twists that will leave you breathless, then this is definitely for you.

What can I say about Aleatha Romig?

Well, for one thing, she did it again. I’ve discovered this author when her Consequences series popped up on my recommendations list, and I’ve read all books within that series and loved it. (Links below)

Insidious is not your average romance. It is more of a story steeped in both romance and mystery. It has a sinister quality to it you don’t find in many books.

The twists and turns will keep your head spinning, trying to play catch up. There are parts of the book where you’re mind would want to sugar coat it, and parts where you’ll want to read more about.

Honestly, when I first started to read it, I couldn’t pinpoint who Vikki ends up with.

Insidious is the story of Victoria Conway, of her life being married to Stewart Harrington, her experiences as his young wife, and her growth from being the 18 year old innocent young woman to present time Vikki.

Victoria Conway was used by her parents as barter. She was, for lack of a better word, sold to Stewart Harrington, a man years her senior. In exchange, she will have unlimited access to his funds, he will help her step-father (who btw, has done nothing for her), and her access to his money will provide the necessary funding for her younger siblings. In turn, she will be his, in every way.

Stewart isn’t your regular husband either, he gives a whole new meaning to “Obey” in the wedding vows. I don’t really want to spoil it for future readers so I won’t tell you what she finds out she signed up for as Mrs. Stewart Harrington but, I can tell you this, it’s not really anything we’d ever imagine.

We get to meet so many characters in her story. Two of such are Travis, Stewart’s right-hand man, and Peppermint Man, who’s identity I’ll keep a secret for now but they both play a part in her story. With Travis, I honestly was suspicious of him from the very beginning, coz seriously he acts too suspicious and since he worked for Stewart, that added a certain hateful feeling in my eyes, because though Stewart did help Vikki from the beginning, I still hated the things he made her do.

“No, I don’t forget. The world you’re entering is full of piranhas. One day you’ll be able to swim without me, but in the meantime, I;ll be glad to help you grow you teeth.” – S. Harrington

Vikki has grown tremendously in her own skin throughout the book. I mean, she was always tough form the start (guess it’s coz of her mother and how she grew up). She has always looked out for her younger siblings, specially Val, her younger sister. When given the chance to save them from giving up on their dream, she instead gave up hers, which shows a huge level of maturity specially at 18 years of age.

This story is not only a story of romance but of strength and the endurance of one woman against everything that was thrown at her.

I wish there was a part written in the point of view of the man she ends up with, I would’ve loved to see his take on things but since it’s written all in Vikki’s perspective, we only see hints of what he really felt about all that happens.

All in all, I loved this story. The suspense and mystery kept me on the edge of my seat, there were hot scenes and horrid ones, graphic ones and romance. There are also humorous sections that I thought were cute.

“…Victoria, I’m feeling well.” He parked the SUV.
“May I escort you to the infectious-disease unit?”
“Oh …………., does that line get you laid, because it’s uniquely intriguing?”
“No, believe it or not, it’s the first time I’ve used it. However,” he said with a gleam in his dark eyes, “I may hold on to it. You never know when it might come in handy.”

LOL

I honestly loved the whole story, every single part that made it it, every twist, every shocking revelation, specially how it ended.

I think the ending fit so well!
